Volunteer Opportunities at PSI

PTO PROJECTS: Build community and foster good communication
- Directory (Sep-Nov): Enter data, help with sales and distribution.
- PSI Spirit Wear (ongoing): Inspire school spirit by selling PSI items at key events.
- Newsletter (monthly): Edit articles and assist editor in lay-out of newsletter
- Bulletin Boards (ongoing): Design and update bulletin boards.
- PSI Parent Website www.psiparents.com (ongoing): Add content, update and maintain current information on website.
FUNDRAISING: Money raised supports Amity interns, PTO events & various classroom and teacher projects.
- Leer–a–tón (Read-a-thon) (Sep-Nov): Develop themes and incentives to promote reading while raising funds.
- Carnival! PSI Family Fun Night & Silent Auction (Jan-March): Help plan, solicit auction donations, publicize and recruit volunteers.
- Scholastic Book Fair (Fall & Spring): Help with various logistics including planning, set-up and clean-up.
- PSI Fund Challenge (ongoing): Collect and count General Mills boxtops & Campbell’s soup labels.
- Grant Writing (ongoing): Experienced volunteers needed for researching and writing grants.
ALL-SCHOOL EVENTS
- International Fair (Nov): A fun family event showcasing our amities and various other world cultures.
- Picture Day (fall & spring): Help kids during picture days.
- Yearbook (ongoing). Assist with coordination, layout and photo collection.
- Field Day (June): Lead fun activities at this end-of-the-year school-day celebration.
- Spring Picnic (June): Celebrate the end of school at this annual event.
AMITY COMMITTEE: This committee recruits native Spanish-speaking interns who provide strong Latin cultural representation and assistance in the classrooms. (Click here for more information about PSI Amity interns for 2010-11)
- Host Family (fall or spring): Provide room and board for an Amity intern for a semester.
SCHOOL-DAY HELP
- Lost and Found (ongoing): Manage lost items until claimed or donated to STEP.
- Media Center : Help check-in books and organize media center.
TEACHER/STAFF HELP
- Room Parents (ongoing): Support the staff in classroom needs.
- Book-in-a-Bag (ongoing): Help coordinate leveled Spanish books for grades K-4.
EDUCATION
- Parent Spanish Classes (fall and spring): Coordinate and promote Spanish classes offered by Amity interns and Community Ed to PSI parents and larger community.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE
This committee promotes PSI's interests within the community. Members will build working relationships with school board members, parents at other schools and district staff. Click here for more information on this committee.
SAFE/HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE
This committee is responsible for identifying and addressing issues related to the safety, health and well-being of the students and staff. It will also focus on environmental issues pertaining to the building and grounds of PSI. Areas of interest include: lunchroom nutrition, health & wellness, outdoor landscaping & gardening, recycling, anti-bullying, and food drives for STEP.
