SLP School Board Resolutions - updated March 9th, 2010:
After numerous School Board Listening Sessions and Public Meetings, the School Board unanimously passed a resolution for a new grade configuration of “6th Grade Up”.
The School Board for St. Louis Park Public Schools voted unanimously to close Cedar Manor Intermediate Center and Eliot Community Center at the end of the 2009-10 school year. Both Central Community Center and Lenox Community Center, previously listed for possible closing, will remain open.
School Board Approves New School Start Times for Fall 2010: At their Monday, March 8th meeting, the School Board voted unanimously to approve new school start times beginning Fall 2010:
- Junior High School/Middle School: Start at 7:40 a.m.
- High School: Start at 8:20 a.m.
- Park Spanish Immersion School (PSI): Start at 8:25 a.m.
- Aquila, Peter Hobart & Susan Lindgren: Start at 9:15 a.m.
School Board Approves New School Boundaries Version 4 School Boundaries to Begin Fall 2010 : At their Monday, March 8th meeting, the School Board voted unanimously to approve Version 4 of the new school boundaries. The boundaries will take affect Fall 2010 and should result in more equity between schools. The estimated enrollment for each K-5 elementary school follows:
- Aquila Elementary School – 478 students
- Peter Hobart Elementary School – 514 students
- Susan Lindgren Elementary School – 512 students
School Board to Cut Elementary Programs:
• Art instruction from a trained art teacher will be eliminated in 4th and 5th grades (already eliminated in K-3).
• All Physical education classes will be doubled up (55-63 students in each class) and provided 5 times a week
(the frequency is an increase for PSI upper grades).
• Chorus in grades 4 and 5 will be eliminated
• General Music, Band and Orchestra to stay the same as this year
• English to stay the same as this year
The PSI Community Relations Committee will be the venue for PSI stakeholders to understand what is happening in SLP Education beyond PSI. We will attend school board meetings, the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) and other important district meetings (such as meeting to report findings from strategic planning or building facilities reports). We will also develop relationships with other SLP schools and school board members.
